New Areas of Law

Possible Images 3Kellehers Australia specialises in emerging legal challenges and ‘overcoming insuperable odds.’ Our lawyers engage passionately with wider legal issues, drawing on Kellehers experience in its core area of practice.

At the forefront of early planning & environmental law in Australia, Kellehers actively involved itself in law reform and the practical application of new law in the fields of planning, environmental protection, heritage, vegetation protection and local government law reviews.

One of the first international law firms to work in Eastern Europe following the fall of Communism, Kellehers developed a particular knowledge and practical experience in what was then the very new law of transition economies.

More recently, Kellehers developed substantial knowledge in the new and emerging legal area of surrogacy law, noting serious legal gaps currently impacting ordinary Australian families who seek international surrogacy arrangements.

Achievements in New Areas of Law:

  • Early leadership in planning and environmental law.
  • One of the few international law firms knowledgeable and experienced in Eastern European restitution and compensation law.
  • Surrogacy
    • Submission to Family Law Council’s Review of Parentage.
    • Kellehers ‘New Ideas’ Series – Surrogacy Law Conference – +18 July 2013 – opened by Adam Bandt MP, Federal Member for Melbourne Senator Di Natale (Greens) and addressed by Dr Cressida Limon, Research Fellow, University of Melbourne & Chair of the Family Law Council’s Review of Parentage under the Family Law Act 1975 and Louise Johnson, CEO, Victorian Assisted Reproductive Treatment Authority (VARTA).
